CHANGE YOUR MIND. HEAL YOUR BODY. TRANSFORM YOUR LIFE….Why Your Mind Matters
Published on 12/05/2017
When I was in medical school, my mother, who was light years ahead of what I was learning about health, introduced me to Louise Hay’s work. Her “You can Heal Your Life” has held a prominent position on my bookshelf ever since.
Some of Louise’s most profound wisdom are on the first several pages of her book where she lists “Some Points of My Philosophy.”
Here are a few that have always spoken to me:
“Every thought we think is creating our future.”
“It’s only a thought, and a thought can be changed.”
“The point of power is always in the present moment.”
Louise knew firsthand the power of changing our minds to heal our bodies and to transform our lives. Diagnosed with an “incurable” gynecologic cancer, she defied her prognosis and conventional medical thinking and healed herself, using these very notions.
Nowadays, we’ve got a wide body of good science supporting these ideas about the power of changing our minds to heal our bodies and to transform our lives. We find it in the abundance of clinical research on mindbody practices, in the emerging field of epigenetics and in the vast and robust field of parapsychology research.
Unfortunately, we’ve not yet caught up to speed in my profession – medical education and training is slow to catch on to shifting principles and practices. Yet in the meantime, we’ve got more and more practitioners, authors and researchers at the forefront of this sea change in how we understand the power of our minds to heal our bodies and change our lives.
And lately I’ve been reading some of these pioneering practitioners, authors and researchers. I’ve added several more books to my shelves that speak to me – most notably, Dr. Joe Dispenza’s latest “Becoming Supernatural: How Common People Are Doing the Uncommon” and his prior “You Are The Placebo: Making Your Mind Matter.”
Dr. Joe has his own remarkable story of healing that defied his prognosis and conventional medical thinking. And it inspired his life’s work, developing tools for individuals to do just the same.
Dr. Kim D’eramo is another physician whose message speaks to the omnipotence of the mind. And she too, has had a personal journey of illness and healing that’s inspired her life’s work. “The Mindbody Toolkit: 10 Tools to Instantly Icnrease Your Energy, Enhance Productivity and Even Reverse Disease” is a fabulous book, chock- full of easy, do-it-yourself tools for putting these principles into practice. It’s on my bookshelf, too.
Here are my take home messages:
- Every thought we think creates our future.
- Every thought we think affects our physical body. It’s either supporting its well-being or supporting dis-ease.
- Every thought we think affects every area of our life: relationships, finances, life path. It’s either supporting our well-being or supporting dis-ease.
So for now, just keep it all in mind.
And stay tuned. I’ll be back here with a bit of my personal story – tales of illness and healing that defied conventional medical thinking and prognoses – and I’ll be offering you simple, effortless tools for experiencing the power of your mind to heal your body and to transform your life.
As always, yours in service.
